New Year, New Ideas

After unsuccessfully keeping records of training and race reports to monitor my progress, I have decided to create a blog! This will be full of all things wonderful, including my weekly meal plans, which will be titled something along the lines of "what's in my belly". Two things led me to the idea of creating weekly meal plans:
  1. If I go into the grocery store with a list of what I need to buy at the beginning of every week, I will buy only what I need to make each meal. I'm hoping this eliminates me buying fruit, veggies, meat, etc.. and forgetting about it in our crammed fridge, wasting food and wasting money- not cool.
  2. Lose body fat. How? Eat proper meals and less crap. Over the past semester (4 months), I got out of the habit of eating breakfast. Going to class and then getting home at about 3-4 in the afternoon having only eaten a granola bar didn't help with training. It also caused me to snack A LOT, and I would end up eating basically a whole other meal before bed time. I ran more than ever in November (don't ask why), and didn't lose any body fat, so it's gotta be the eating habits right? Anyhow, planned meals = proper nutrition = lower body fat % for Andrew = higher power to weight ratio = increased chances of winning while turning the cranks on my bicycle.
I'll be throwing in training reports every now and then, not for every session, but any main workout or if the way I'm feeling changes, if I feel strong, if I felt weak, etc.. Race reports will be posted, and any other cool training reads, articles, all kinds of fun stuff. May the fun begin..

After a ten day period with only a half hour easy run, I have finally beat my cold and got back into training today with an easy 7 mile run. I felt excellent, even though it was -5 C plus a crazy wind.
I left my trainer in Windsor over the holidays thinking it would force me to suck it up and brave the elements, and it was up until I got sick. Tomorrow I'll be bundling up and heading out on the cross bike for a 2-hour ride, upon which I may die of hypothermia.

The meal plans will begin once I get back to Windsor on Sunday, Jan. 9th. For now I'm eating out of Momma Flanagan's fridge which she keeps full of some pretty awesome stuff that I can't afford on my budget in Windsor.

Happy New Year, hope everyone achieves their goals for the year and keeps up with their resolution!
